Mirabelle

Finding Secrets in Every Turn

Senorita Amalia “Mirabelle” Ralphina Lopez-Martinez was born into a gypsy caravan in the eastern Spanish foothills. She grew up in a carefree migration dancing from place to place. Her feet never stayed still. She was destined to dance. As she came of age, her flamenco could set fire in the hearts of anyone. Day and night, from town to town, she awed the people and they wooed her. They would give her roses, trinkets, love notes...and some even passionate kisses. She enjoyed them all!

However, it was not carefree for long. Dictator Francisco Franco mandated censorship of her precious flamenco! She was soon arrested for dancing in public. After her arrest, she pleaded with one of King Ferdinand’s advisors who was quite taken with her performance the previous year and remembered her very fondly. He was tasked with putting down the Mexican Rebellion and came up with an idea. Mirabelle’s skills at acting and distracting were just what they needed to get inside information. She just needed a little polishing. Mirabelle charmed her way around a gun, around a ship, and around the commanders and generals. They entrusted her with sensitive information on Spain’s next moves and codes to send information back. Mirabelle, however, fooled them all. She crossed the Atlantic on their peseta and double-crossed them! As IF she would support anyone who banned flamenco!

Mirabelle made herself scarce as soon as she could, after sending plenty of false information. Now in exile, she travels with us incognito sending messages from town to town drumming up support for Mexican Independence from Spain and dancing her heart out. She made it her personal mission to keep the love of dance alive and well for all to embrace!
